He is descended from patriotic ancestry, his grandfather, Henry Lance and Richard Stone, two of which participated in the Revolutionary War. He is a son of JF Lance, a native of Tennessee, engaged in the vocation of a farmer in his property state, where he remained till his death. A man of powerful convictions, he was a pillar of the Democratic Party. In his religious relations he is identified with the Christian Church. His wife, the mother of our subject was Maria Amanda Campbell, also from Tennessee. Immediately after his marriage, Mr. Lance engaged in agriculture in Coffee County, exactly where he remained for twelve years. He then removed to Missouri, and led the agriculture and livestock in Cedar County for a period of seven years. In 1885 he came to Kansas, and upon arrival in Pittsburgh is committed for a time, as the owner of the Cottage Residence.
