Chicago, Biographical Publishing Co. 1894th Hon GC Lance, Judge of the Court of the Pittsburgh Police, was in Warren County, Tennessee, 26 Born in October 1841. He is descended from patriotic ancestry, his grandfather, Henry Lance and Richard Stone, two of which participated in the Revolutionary War. He is a son of JF Lance, a native of Tennessee, engaged in the vocation of a farmer in his property state, where he remained till his death. A man of powerful convictions, he was a pillar of the Democratic Party. In his religious relations he is identified with the Christian Church. His wife, the mother of our subject was Maria Amanda Campbell, also from Tennessee. In January 1863, he entered the U.S. Navy and served till August 12, 1865, when he was discharged with the rank of fireman first class. He participated in the siege of Savannah, Charleston, the surrender of Richmond, and several smaller engagements. At the finish of the war, Mr. Lance returned to Middle Tennessee, October 26, 1865 exactly where he married Miss Eliza, daughter of Thompson Frazier, a farmer living in Coffee County, Tenn. Immediately after his marriage, Mr. Lance engaged in agriculture in Coffee County, exactly where he remained for twelve years. He then removed to Missouri, and led the agriculture and livestock in Cedar County for a period of seven years. In 1885 he came to Kansas, and upon arrival in Pittsburgh is committed for a time, as the owner of the Cottage Residence.
